Some days are about being intentional, and some days are about follow-through, and some are about rest.
Some days chores keep piling up and email keeps coming in, appointments need making and deadlines need meeting, kids need socks and underpants washed before tomorrow morning and what the heck, we have to make dinner? AGAIN? Every day? What kind of system is this?
It’s just that there are a lot of THINGS going on. Your days are filled with a whole lot of things. Your life is filled with a whole lot of things.
Even a simple life can be filled with a lot of things.
Sometimes those things all run smoothly, one after the other, in tidy order. Other days the order slips by the wayside and you end up getting battered by wave after predictable-but-not-quite-expected wave.
If that’s where you are this week: remember that you are allowed to take time to find your bearings. You are allowed to reorient yourself before you start navigating again.
Some weeks are for waiting on decisions, for resting instead of creating, for stepping back from the great wheel of ongoing interaction and information that is the internet. Maybe this is one of them.
Take your time. Breathe your breath. Watch the waves calm, or let them splash around you.
Some days we’re full-steam-ahead, and some days we’re just staying afloat. It’s okay to save your energy today. You can always start fresh tomorrow. (Maybe even with clean socks and underwear.)
