May you find an ordinary moment to transform, this week. May you take that moment, that little piece of time, and make something with it. Make something delightful happen, something extraordinary, something memorable and fun but still simple and easy or we all know it ain’t happening.
You have to eat dinner anyway; maybe gather friends around the table. Or maybe just your family, eating in the backyard. You probably have a picnic blanket somewhere in the house, or even an old sheet. (If not, hit the thrift store.) Or grab the dinner and go: eat at the park, the beach, the pool, the picnic tables by the hiking trail.
You have to have breakfast no matter what; maybe invite someone to join you, to just bring their cold cereal and eat it at your house in their pajamas. Or surprise the kids with popsicles for breakfast. Or bowls of popcorn and with milk poured over the top. (It’s pretty much cold cereal, only with more popping.) Or homemade soft-serve frozen yogurt. (Blend vanilla yogurt + frozen fruit. Done.)
You have to sleep; maybe bust out the sleeping bags, camp in the living room. Or even the backyard.
There are so many moments that make up a day. May you have time and energy and presence to pick one, and do something with it. A candle-lit evening for no particular reason? Hang twinkle lights outside and sip lemonade? Go for a first-thing-in-the-morning swim, an after-dinner walk, get out to watch the sun set (or–eek–rise)?
May you have bursts of creativity, tiny ideas for switching up one little moment of your day. Just one moment. Not all the moments. This is not about turning your whole life into a Crazy Summerfest. We’re looking for easy. Different. Fun.
May you have a chance to take that one moment — just one! — and make a memory out of it this week.
