  • So if, THEORETICALLY, you had both a milestone birthday AND a milestone wedding anniversary coming up in the next month, how would you celebrate? Asking for a friend. (Yes the friend is me.) #canwepretendthrowbacktuesdayisathing
  • I’m fine, fine, totally FINE. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I mean I AM, and I’m sure YOU are too, but you’re probably not ONLY fine.⁣ ⁣⁣ Maybe you’re also GREAT because you’ve been on time all day and also your hair has miraculously not turned all frizzy, even though the humidity is stupid. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Or you’re excited about a new idea/project/the fact that you remembered to buy breakfast foods and are not running on caffeine (exclusively). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Or you’re anxious about trying to break some old patterns and rewrite old scripts. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Or you’re scared about all kinds of stuff but trying to be brave and do the thing anyway. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You’re both/and/all. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ “Fine” is shorthand for “I’m not dead yet and I don’t want to get into the rest.” But seriously, do. Do get into the rest. That’s where all the good stuff happens. xo.
  • The call of the warrior: I have my tea. I can do hard things.⁣ ⁣ Even when the hard thing is Finish Proofreading My Manuscript. ⁣ ⁣ Even when one million other things seem suddenly and deeply compelling, things like folding all the laundry in the house, and flossing my teeth in the middle of the day, and writing an instagram caption, and leaving a whole bunch of in-depth comments with carefully chosen and highly relevant emojis 💃👏🏼💯 ⁣ ⁣ I’m engaging with the world (or at least the people of Instagram) and also practicing excellent dental hygiene! These are all Super Important Things that could not possibly wait until next Tuesday, let’s be real.⁣ ⁣ All right, all right! I remember. I have my tea. I can do hard things. Maybe I should brew a second cup just in case? xo.
  • This has been one of those weeks that require a bazillion decisions and making plans and figuring things out. ⁣ ⁣ Last night I finally realized: Oh hi, I still have eighteen thousand things to decide and I am out of opinions! There are no answers here, just options. They’re all equally reasonable options. There is no right answer, no winner, no Most Important Thing.⁣ ⁣ And Dane said to me: Well... if there’s no right answer, I think that means you can do what you like.⁣ ⁣ YOU GUYS. Of course. This is your life. Do what you like! What a concept! I gave up on even trying to make a pros and cons list and just PICKED. ⁣ ⁣ You can do that because ‘what you like’ is just as valid of criteria as ‘what anyone else wants from you.’ Go forth and do what you like. Amen. xo.
  • Last year at Pride, Evelyn was little-but-not-THAT-little. Too little to want to march the whole route, too big for me to carry. Our friend Greg picked her up and carried her on his shoulders. ⁣ ⁣ The year before, Eli came down with an ear infection halfway through the parade and ALSO had to be carried all the way back to the car. ⁣ ⁣ Basically, we’re all just walking each other home and/or to Pride. ⁣ ⁣ These are the lessons I hope my kids are absorbing: that we all—every one of us, not just our family—we all belong to each other, that we will hold each other no matter what, that we will celebrate each other for who we are, and that we are lucky, so lucky, to be on this earth together, to get to live and learn and love together. #pride ⁣ ⁣ (Also that by July, I cannot be bothered to keep up with bangs. Every kid has their hair in their eyes. Thank you for noticing, we’ll fix it in September.)
