Mom! It looks like rain! Can we play in the tent in the rain?
[check weather: partly cloudy, 10% chance of rain.]
You can play in the tent, but I don’t think it’s going to rain.
But if it does? Can we stay out there?
Oh, probably.
[cue repeated mad dashes up and down the stairs for pillows! blankets! books! sweatshirts! soft friends and a lego airplane!]
I felt a drop! It’s going to rain soon! Everybody in!
[quiet reading of books in tent.]
[watch hands of clock tick tick tick. check weather again: cloudy, 0% chance of rain. crack open a book of my own, why don't I.]
Mom? It doesn’t look like rain anymore.
Not really.
Can we still play in the tent?
Oh yes.
Sometimes rolling with it works just fine.

I am shocked. I have no problem taking the perfect picture of my kids. ; )
I do love the word “yes.” It feels liberating as it rolls off my tongue.
I knew you would be shocked.
